I had much fun from our being almost exact contemporaries in the Service, and hope you did too. From the Daw Mill coal mine visit to having a beer whilst fielding at the boundary at NPL, to the wine library. Pity we never got round to that wheeze of yours to capitalise on the ECSC number 2 account...
Farewell dear friend until we meet in the hereafter. Chris Wright.

"Home thoughts from abroad" - unfortunately Sydney is a little remote but wanted to share my reflections on Gregor:
Gregor and I first met when we were 24 or 25 and shared an office at the Department of Energy in the building now occupied by MI5. We took on the responsibility of negotiating with the Norwegian government to protect the UK’s interests in the North Sea fields which straddled the international boundary – in the absence of any real interest from more senior mandarins. That built a mutual respect and understanding, garnished with humour, that lasted throughout his lifetime.
Having spent so much of my own life overseas I haven’t spent as much time with Gregor as I’m sure would’ve been the case if I’d stayed in London – but he was always at the very top of my rather short list of people to catch up with when back in town; it’s hard to believe he won’t be there next time. I’ll always remember his passion and commitment to causes he believed in, from the North Sea to protecting consumers of postal services, and his willingness to hold a mirror up to fuddy-duddy bureaucrats and time-servers.
In so many ways Gregor was a true “public servant” in a mould that seems largely broken, perhaps undervalued by the “establishment” but a true gentleman and a true friend; I miss him already.

Thank you for setting up this memorial to Gregor.
We hope that you find it a positive experience developing the site and that it becomes a place of comfort and inspiration for you to visit whenever you want or need to.
